Bedford Heritage Trail gets more than $2M in federal funding
BEDFORD, Pa. - PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards along with U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster and former U.S. Rep. Bud Shuster announced federal funding for the North Extension of the Bedford Heritage Trail Wednesday.
The funding will allow for the construction of the extension that will connect Fort Bedford Park to Old Bedford Village and Friendship Village. This will allow visitors to walk or bike to and from the attractions.
“The Bedford Heritage Trail is an excellent example of what great things can be accomplished when officials, municipalities, agencies, and citizens work together toward a common goal,” Richards said.
“This beautiful trail will be available for citizens and visitors of Bedford County to enjoy for generations.”
Currently, the trail extends 2.65 miles and connects the Omni Bedford Springs Resort to Fort Bedford Park.
The goal of the trail is to to stimulate economic growth and increase recreational opportunities in Bedford County.
The Bedford Heritage Trail Extension is being funded by a $2.5 million federal grant.
