Expansion of Moshannon Valley EMS service to include training of more EMTs, in-person house calls
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — In Centre County, a project that was first envisioned as an expansion for an emergency services organization is now projected as a new health care agency for the Moshannon Valley area.
The Moshannon Valley EMS expansion plans have been in the works for several years as the organization looks to move out of cramped quarters to a larger facility that will be built at the site of the former Philipsburg hospital site.
Also expanding greatly are the EMS service’s future priorities, which include a new training center.
The organization hopes to train up to 60 new emergency medical services personnel every year.
“It’s crucial, we’ve got to get more people. We’re not the only ambulance service doing this. We are pulling locally from Clearfield, to Centre, to Blair; all the surrounding counties are pulling the same paramedics. There's not a lot going into training now.”
Also included in the future plans for the EMS service are more health care services, including in-home visits.
“We’re starting to build a paramedicine, mobile integrated healthcare system that is in the early stages. That’s going to ease some of the pressure off the 911 responders. That we can actually go into people’s homes.”
The Moshannon Valley EMS has 35 staffers, with 10 more expected with the expansion.
Groundbreaking on the new facility is projected to be about a year away.
