BELLEFONTE – People in Bellefonte volunteered to help others, providing meals and fellowship to people who needed it.

For the 21st year, Faith Church hosted its Bellefonte free community Christmas dinner --, better known as a celebration or sharing and community.

“Hello,. Merry Christmas,” event organizer Kelly Smith said as guests began to enter the room.

The dinner took place in Fellowship Hall of Faith Church, and over 700 meals were served.

"They started this originally so that either we could deliver to people and they would not go without having a Christmas meal or people who didn’t have family to be with..., that they could come here and eat with others and talk to people," Smith said.

Organizers not only serve meals to those who walk in their doors but they also deliver to those unable to travel.

"It's nice to do that and we have fun,” Smith said. “It gets a little hectic at times but we have fun doing it."

Everyone brings their family and friends to enjoy the company of the Bellefonte community.

"It's just so nice to come in an open atmosphere and feel loved," attendee Scottie Showers said.

One family has made this event a family tradition, participating for over 15 years.

"We've come every year,” Showers said. “Since they started."

Showers said the event offers more than just a free dinner.

"It's not just about a free meal. It's the community,” Showers said. “It's the fellowship we have here at the church and the church opening their doors."

Organizers said even people who don't belong to their church come in to help. The church looks forward to continuing this tradition next year.
