Former Pittsburgh Pirate Michael McKenry, wife join ownership group of Johnstown Mill Rats
JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — The Johnstown Mill Rats announced Friday that former Pittsburgh Pirates' catcher Michael McKenry and his wife, Jaclyn, have joined the ownership group of the team.
The future of the team was left "up in the air" last fall after the Prospect League reportedly removed the Mill Rats from its website.
In November, the team's management dispelled the uncertainty by stating that the organization planned to stay in Johnstown, as part of the Prospect League, with new ownership.
McKenry is a seven-year veteran of the MLB, which included three years with the Pirates.
The Mill Rats will continue to play games at Sargent's Stadium at the Point and Opening Days is scheduled for May 28.
