KISS to perform 'final live shows ever' in New York

KISS plans to "rock and roll all nite and party everyday" no more, as the band said it will perform its "final live shows ever" in New York City in just a few weeks.

They said will take the stage two last times on December 1st and December 2nd at Madison Square Garden.

We’re thrilled to be performing our final shows at MSG since the band originated in New York City over 50 years ago," the band said Tuesday in a news release. "We are thankful for our long legacy of fans, the KISS Army.

The band also announced an "epic takeover" of New York by holding "activations" -- or events -- in the five days leading up to the shows. They said they partnered with Bravado, a merchandise company, to help them offer memorabilia as a "tribute to the band’s deep legacy and history" with the Big Apple.

"(We are) excited to be celebrating through these activations," the band said.

The release noted the takeover includes the following activations:

It's not the first time KISS has announced a farewell tour. In fact, they've had at least a few over the years.

Gene Simmons, who plays bass and sings, and Paul Stanley, who plays rhythm guitar and also sings, founded KISS in New York City in 1973. Ace Frehley and Peter Criss later joined, with Frehley playing lead guitar and Criss on drums, respectably.

Frehley and Criss left the band in the 1980s and there have been lineup changes over the years. Other past members include Eric Carr, Vinnie Vincent, Mark St. John, and Bruce Kulick.

For their final tour, Simmons and Stanley will be joined by Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer.

Known for wearing face paint, elaborate pyrotechnics during shows, and Simmon's massive tongue, the band's most popular hits include "Rock & Roll All Nite," and "Beth."

The release noted KISS earned "more Gold Album Record Awards than any American rock band in the history of The Recording Industry Association of America's Gold and Platinum certifications."
