CLEARFIELD - A major Hollywood movie, described as a powerful and emotional drama about family history and facing the past, is being filmed in Clearfield County.

A crew of about 40 people are creating "Generational Sins."

Filming took place Friday at JC'S Bar & Grill in Kylertown, with locals playing the extras. The scene was a bar fight.

"It's about two estranged brothers who return to their hometown of central Pennsylvania because it's their dying mother's wish to reconcile with their alcoholic, abusive father," director Spencer Folmar said.

Folmar is a native of Clearfield County and graduated from West Branch Area School District. He said this is his third feature film and that every time he writes a script, he thinks of home.

"I've shot films and done work in Hollywood where I live now, but the community response and support is unmatchable here," Folmar said. "It's really nice to be able to shoot in a local community that supports you and welcomes you into their homes and businesses."

"Generational Sins" stars a lead Australian and Hollywood actor, Daniel MacPherson, who plays the older brother, Drew.

"I always saw that Drew had a burden on his shoulders," MacPherson said. "So I grew the biggest beard I could and put on like 25 pounds."

Also starring are Hollywood veterans, Dax Spanogle, Barrett Donner and Kristen Jezek in lead roles.

Folmar said the technical crew is from Orlando, where the director also shot some scenes. They've been in Clearfield County for 21 days now.

"Three weeks up here in Pennsylvania has been wonderful," MacPherson said. "I've loved meeting people, hearing the stories, the history of this place and it's just a stunning part of the world. I've really enjoyed it."

Folmar said there are separate film markets, Christian Cinema and Hollywood. He hopes "Generational Sims" can find the intersection between the two and create a new genre film.

"Our films are set in a realistic world with realistic characters," Folmar said. "Our characters speak about Christian themes throughout the film like brokenness and profanity."

Saturday will be the last day of shooting for the film.

Folmar said they hope the movie will be released in either December or January.
