Spring Mills man accused of attacking officers with flagpole on Jan. 6 had previous conviction for a
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A Centre County man was arrested last week and is facing federal charges in connection to the January 6th Capitol riot.
Officials say it’s not the first time that he's been accused of attacking members of law enforcement personnel.
In the federal complaint against Terry Allen, of Spring Mills, there are multiple photos of him amongst the riot crowd on the U.S. Capitol steps on January 6th, 2021.
Allen is first accused of using a wooden flagpole as a lance, jabbing it at law enforcement officers and then later throwing a metal pole at officers.
In all, he faces five federal felony charges and authorities say it is not the first time he has been accused of assaulting police.
In late 1983, according to a criminal complaint in Centre County court, police were called to a State College restaurant where Allen was reportedly passed out on a table.
According to the criminal complaint, Allen tried to choke the responding officer and then repeatedly banged the officer's head against the parking lot.
Allen was convicted of aggravated assault and jailed in the Centre County Prison.
In the new federal charges against him, the arrest warrant was issued late last month, and then sealed until Allen’s arrest last Thursday.
His first court hearing is later this month.
If convicted on all charges, Allen could be facing more than 15 years in prison.
